New Releases: Winter at Weekapaug Beach, Westerly, RI
Feb 09, 2017
It seems I have found a new favorite beach! I came across Weekapaug Beach in Westerly, Rhode Island, during the fall. Westerly always seemed way too far away for me, being from the East Bay part of Rhode Island, and like many Rhode Islanders, I have a hard time driving more than 30 minutes to get anywhere. But now that I live in South County, I can get down to Westerly within the acceptable 30 minute timeframe, so I'm having fun exploring the area.
Weekapaug is a south-facing, very pristine stretch of shoreline. In the offseason, you can have the whole beach to yourself, except maybe for some harbor seals creeping on you from the water. I enjoyed shooting some minimal-style seascapes there on two recent outings. You would think these were all shot on the same day, judging by the clouds in these photos, but they weren't! These are the blue tones of a winter dusk, muted and soothing to look at in a photograph, yet cold and moody in person. Enjoy.
